Abstract
The aim of the present study is to investigate the influence of parental child-rearing attitudes on mobile phone dependence and to test the mediating effect of aggression between the two variables in highschool students across the country. Based on the results of literature review, a proposed structural equation model concerning the three aforementioned variables has been identified. The present study has analyzed the 4th wave data from Korean Children and Youth Panel Study 2010. The major results of the study were as follows. First, both parental supervision and rational explanation could have a significant negative effect on aggression, but inconsistency could have a significant positive effect on aggression. Second, parental supervision could have a significant negative effect on mobile phone dependence, but inconsistency could have a significant positive effect on mobile phone dependence. Third, aggression could be a significant mediator between parental supervision and mobile phone dependence. Fourth, aggression could be a significant mediator between inconsistency and mobile phone dependence. It is concluded that both improving parental child-rearing attitudes and reducing aggression of adolescent children are related to the prevention of mobile phone dependence among adolescents.
